A Belgium man locked up in Harlan County for nearly two months after police say he was trying to meet up with a 13 year old girl is free tonight.

19 year old Kris A. was released from the Harlan County Jail Tuesday. Police say Asnong traveled from Belgium to Harlan after talking with the girl online. A grand jury found no evidence A. tried to have sex with the 13 year old. Tuesday, the girl and her mother testified before the grand jury in favor of A.

An Eastern Kentucky sheriff says he's facing death threats after he arrested a Belgium man last month.

Harlan County Sheriff Marvin Lipfird says his deputies arrested 19 year old Kris A. in August for soliciting sex from a 13 year old Harlan County girl. They say A. traveled from Belgium to Harlan where he tried to meet the girl. Now the sheriff says people in Belgium, who think he's mistreating the 19 year old, are making death threats against him and his family.

"A few said they understood what I was doing, others got into threats and then later this week, emails got into death threats. I think there's about a hundred and eighty," Lipford said.

A Harlan County grand jury is considering whether to indict the 19 year old.

Sergent said A. came to Harlan County for the direct purpose of "seeing this 13-year-old girl." And according to Lipfird, the intent behind his visit was serious in nature.

"This guy stayed in contact with this girl for two years, went through the trouble of obtaining a visa, flew over the ocean, taxied from Lexington to Harlan County, booked a room at the Holiday Inn Express and then went to the movies," the sheriff said. "That's intent in and of itself."

A. was arrested and charged with possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor and unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual or other prohibited activities, both of which are Class D felonies.
